The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, for the first time in 2016, received SCLEA accreditation. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation program is an initiative of the South Carolina Police Chiefs’ Association and the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association. The Program is a voluntary program for professional improvement, fashioned in ways that best meet local needs while simultaneously expressing commitment to professional law enforcement practices. Agencies considering application for accredited status must be willing to provide emphasis and dedication not only to the initial accreditation process, but also to maintaining the process for the future. In 2019, the accreditation again was successfully completed. The next review will be in February 2022.
